Curtain structure (linen + waterproof)

ALT (2 layers overview): Linen shower curtain with waterproof liner overview showing two layers

Our bathroom curtain has two layers:

  1. Main linen curtain (100% linen)

  2. White waterproof layer (100% polyester)

Standard option: both layers are sewn together at the top for a seamless look.
Design note: the linen layer is made slightly wider to fully cover the white lining and keep the look elegant.

Prefer two separate curtains (one linen + one waterproof)? Contact us — we can offer this as a custom option (availability depends on the top finish).

What you’ll need

• Measuring tape
• Notes app
• A quick photo of your shower/tub setup (optional, but very helpful)

Before you measure

• Check if your rod is straight or curved.
• Decide your setup: Shower or Bathtub (this affects length recommendations).
• Choose your top finish — it affects where you measure from.
• Measure in cm or inches, just stay consistent.

Step 1 — Measure width (rod/opening width → finished curtain width)

Measure the rod width (end to end) or the shower opening width.

Fullness (how gathered you want it when closed):
• Standard full look: 1.5× rod width
• For grommets: 1.5× to 2× (recommended for full coverage and a rich drape)

Tip: Curved rods often need a bit more width than straight rods for proper coverage.

Step 2 — Measure length (choose the correct measuring point)

The perfect length depends on your bathroom layout, your chosen top finish, and the hanging elements you use (hooks, rings, clips).
Important: if you measure from the rod but hang the curtain on rings/clips, the curtain may end up longer than expected because you didn’t account for the height of the hanging elements.

Choose the measuring point based on your top finish

• Tab Tops (including tab tops with buttons)
Measure from the top of the tab (at rod level) down to where you want the curtain to end.
Note: tab tops wrap over the rod, so the curtain may sit slightly higher, which can create a small gap at the bottom if the length wasn’t adjusted.

• Buttonholes (used with hooks / rings)
Measure from the bottom of the hook/ring (the point where the fabric actually starts hanging) down to your desired curtain bottom.
Note: the final drop depends on the style/size of your hooks or rings.

• Multifunctional tape (used with hooks, rings, clips — or as a rod-pocket/tab-top style on the rod)
There are two ways to hang multifunctional tape — please measure based on your method:

A) With hooks / rings / clips (most common):
Measure from the bottom of the hook/ring/clip (the point where the fabric actually starts hanging) down to your desired curtain bottom.
Common mistake: measuring from the rod instead of from the bottom of rings/clips — this can make the curtain look longer than expected because you didn’t account for the height of the hanging elements.

B) On the rod (tab-top / rod-pocket style using the tape):
The curtain wraps over the rod and typically sits about ~1 cm (≈0.4") higher than the rod level.
This means the curtain can appear slightly shorter at the bottom, so please factor this in when choosing your finished length.

• Grommets
The stated length is measured from the top of the fabric to the bottom.
Important: when hung, grommets sit slightly above the rod and the fabric wraps over the rod. The curtain can rise a little, creating a bottom gap — please factor this in when choosing your size.

“How we measure” vs “How you measure” (quick clarity)

We measure (finished size): the curtain fabric from the defined top edge (based on the selected finish) to the bottom hem.
You measure (your setup): from your real hanging point (rod / bottom of rings / bottom of clips) to your desired endpoint.

If you’re unsure, send us a quick photo of your rod + hanging elements — we’ll confirm the best length.

Choose your setup: Shower or Bathtub

A) If your curtain is for a shower

Goal: maximum water protection + clean look.

Recommended finished length (linen layer):
• Measure to just above the floor (recommended).
• Avoid fabric dragging on the floor (moisture + dirt).

Waterproof liner length (recommended):
• The waterproof layer should extend close to the base (depending on your shower tray height).
• For a neat layered look, we typically make the waterproof liner 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8") shorter than the linen curtain.

B) If your curtain is for a bathtub

Goal: elegant linen look + liner stays inside the tub zone.

Recommended finished length (linen layer):
• Many customers choose linen to end near the floor for a soft, elegant drape (but still avoid dragging).

Waterproof liner length (recommended):
• We recommend a shorter waterproof liner for bathtubs.
• Measure from the top down to the bathtub edge, then add 15–20 cm (6–8").
• For a clean layered finish, the waterproof liner should still be 1–2 cm shorter than the linen curtain.

Waterproof layer notes (important for showers)

If the curtain is used for a shower

For proper water protection, the waterproof layer should extend all the way down to the base (close to the floor, depending on your shower tray height).
If the waterproof layer is too short, water can escape — especially if a small gap forms while showering.

Anti-cling comfort (no plastic “vacuum” effect)

Our waterproof layer is designed to keep its shape well and does not cling to the body like plastic curtains, even without a bottom weight.

Optional: if you want extra stability, we can sew in a lead weight on request.
Please note: we cannot take responsibility for any potential oxidation/rusting marks over time, as this depends on humidity, cleaning, and bathroom conditions.

Common mistakes

• Measuring length from the wrong point (rod top vs. bottom of rings/hooks/clips)
• Forgetting that hanging hardware adds height — the curtain may end up longer than expected if you measured from the rod
• Not factoring in the rise on the rod (grommets or multifunctional tape used on the rod) — the curtain can sit slightly higher and create a bottom gap
• Choosing a length that drags on the floor (can trap moisture)
• Forgetting curved rods usually need extra width for full coverage
• Not specifying whether the curtain is for shower or bathtub (liner length recommendations differ)
• Requesting the waterproof liner to be much shorter but not noting it (custom request)
• For showers: choosing a waterproof liner length that doesn’t reach close to the base — water can escape and reduce protection

If you’re unsure, send us a photo of your rod + hanging method — we’ll confirm the best length before you order.
